Embossed bars are stamped and embossed from an elaborately produced gold band. Each bar is issued in a blister pack that protects it from damage.

In comparison, cast bars are more commonly associated with the classic image of a gold bar. They are created by pouring liquid gold into a mold. This casting is carried out under high heat and an open flame. As it cools, natural solidification lines form, making each bar unique and tamper-proof. These lines are characteristic and run concentrically from the inside to the outside. Cast bars are usually stored unpackaged, but this does not reduce their resale value. A reduction in value or classification as melt goods is only to be expected in the event of severe damage or underweight.
