The Silver Maple Leaf is a Canadian coin which has been minted by Royal Canadian Mint since 1988. Like the Gold Maple leaf, the Maple Leaf silver coin is one of the highest turnover investment coins of the world and is particularly high in demand owing to its unchanged motif.

Besides the 1 ounce Maple Leaf silver coin, limited editions in units of 1/20 ounce, 1/10 ounce, 1/4 ounce, 1/2 ounce and 10 ounce are available.The fineness is 999,9 each. Further limited editions exist, including the Privy Maple Leaf coin which are embossed with a small symbol of major events such as the Olympic winter games 2010 in Vancouver. Besides the Gold Maple Leaf and Silver Maple Leaf, the coin is also available in platinum since 1988 and in palladium since 2005.

Design of the silver coin

The front of the coin shows a maple leaf which is also depicted on the national flag of Canada. On the back, like on all coins of the Commonwealth, the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II is visible which is updated according to her appearance. The value of the Silver Maple Leaf is 5 Canadian Dollar. The coin is legal tender and is inscribed in the two national Canadian languages, English and French.
